About Us

Who We Are

Honoring Service. Continuing Legacy.

The FireBall Foundation was established to carry forward the values of Col. William R. Smith and the brave crew of the FireBall B-17 Flying Fortress. Their story is one of courage, integrity, and sacrifice — qualities that continue to guide every decision we make today.

Founded by Bruce Smith, the Foundation stands as a living tribute to his father’s example of leadership and heart. Our mission is simple: to do what’s right, fix what’s wrong, and uplift the people and causes that make our communities stronger.

What We Stand For:

  • Preserving the memory of those who served with honor
  • Supporting organizations that make a real difference
  • Strengthening local communities through giving and service
  • Inspiring future generations to lead with purpose and compassion

A Legacy of Service in the Skies and Beyond

Capt. William R. “Bill” Smith was a decorated pilot and leader of the FireBall B-17 Flying Fortress crew during World War II. His commitment to service, leadership under pressure, and compassion for his crew earned him the respect of all who served alongside him.

After the war, his legacy lived on through his family and community — a legacy that continues today through the work of the Fireball Foundation. The courage, loyalty, and integrity that defined his life remain at the heart of everything we do.

Looking Ahead

Carrying the Fireball Spirit into the Future

As the FireBall Foundation continues to grow, our mission remains rooted in service — but our reach extends to new generations. We aim to expand our partnerships, strengthen our community ties, and ensure that the courage and compassion of the FireBall crew continue to inspire action for decades to come.

Future Goals:

  • Support more veteran and youth initiatives
  • Develop educational programs that share the FireBall story
  • Continue investing in local causes that reflect our values
  • Keep the spirit of “Do what’s right, fix what’s wrong” alive
